President Rajapakse to deliver commemorative lecture on Amirthalingam
Colombo, 10 April, (Asiantribune.com): After a long lapse a commemoration lecture on the late Appapillai Amirthalingam, the elected leader of the Tamils and the successor to S. J. V. Chelvanayakam, the founding father of the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kadchi (Federal Party) will be held by The Asian Tribune at the BMICH in Colombo.
President Mahinda Rajapakse will deliver the commemoration lecture. The commemoration lecture will be held in July, 2006, on the 17th death anniversary of the late Amirthalingham.
This is the first time that the head of the state will deliver a commemorative lecture on a Tamil leader. The first and the last time it was held were under the aegis of M. Sivasithamparam, the veteran Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) leader, who became the President of the TULF after the demise of S.J.V.Chelvanayakam.
Asian Tribune, together with the World Institute of Asian Studies (WIAS), initiated this commemorative lecture to honor the services rendered by late Amirthalingham, to the Sri Lankan national politics and to the Tamil community in particular.

President Rajapakse to deliver commemorative lecture on Amir
We need more people like sellam, Alex who believe, the future belongs to the coming generations who deserve it, NOT to the sceptics with the old baggage.
At some point SriLankans will have to go beyond the bitter memories of the past.
President Rajapakse to deliver commemorative lecture on Amir
It's better to wait until the ceremony is over. Because most probably this will be an anti-Ltte gathering rather than a commemoration lectures, unless the speakers have the courage to say about last democratically elected leader and decision given by north-east people and how their democratic mandate was ignored and here we are today.....

President Rajapakse to deliver commemorative lecture on Amir
I welcome the commemorative ceremony for Late Mr. Appapillai Amirthalingam to be held by Asian Tribune at BMICH in Colombo. It is a good gesture that President Rajapakse is to deliver a commemorative lecture.
I hope the Asian Tribune will publish his specech on its website.
I also wish to take this opportunity to remind the Tamils that it was Mr.Amirthalingam who created a monster among the Tamils. It was he who instigated the first murder of Alfred Thuaiappah, the then mayor of Jaffna and held Pirapakartan at his home in safty from the Police and army. Anairthalingam paid a price for it. Let it be a lesson for the Tamils. Will they learn is another question.
Everything was for power in the name of "TAMILS".
However, I try to forget what has been done and instead I wish he had lived today to support Anandasangaree.
