Pakistan rejects US official remarks as highly irresponsible
By Iqbal Hussain Khan Yousafzai - Reporting from Islamabad
Islamabad, 08 May, (Asiantribune.com): Expressing dismay over remarks by U.S. State Department Coordinator for counter-terrorism Henry Crumpton that Islamabad was not doing enough to help flush out Taliban and Al-Qaida leaders from its territory, Pakistan has strongly rejected the remarks as irresponsible, saying Islamabad was fully committed to the war on terror and has so far arrested or killed hundreds of Al-Qaida and Taliban activists.
Crumpton made the remarks in Kabul on Saturday, alleging that most of the Taliban and Al-Qaida leadership had found safe haven in Pakistan's lawless tribal belt.
While the United States did not know where Osama bin Laden was hiding, the Al-Qaida leader was probably on the Pakistani side of the Afghan border, he said.
