This cluster can be controlled - Health Services Director General

By Manjari Peiris
Colombo, 13 July, (Asiantribune.com):

Kandakaduwa is not the second wave of COVID 19, said the Health Services Director General, Dr. Anil Jasinghe, "This cluster can be controlled. Though it is a challenge, we can handle it just the way we did in the past. The problem was people and institutions took COVID 19 very lightly after the re-opening of the country. They did not follow even the basic health guidelines issued by the government and the Health Ministry to prevent COVID 19. Everything depends on our discipline and cooperation" he said.

The health staff, the Armed Forces and Intelligence Service are taking all the required measures to control the cluster, Rajanganaya Yaya 1,2 and 3. More COVID 19 patients could be found from this area and various other areas.

"From now onwards all people and state and private institutions should follow all health guidelines issued by the Government and the Health Ministry to prevent COVID-19. All institutions should strictly follow all operational guidelines issued to them. Meetings, rallies, other non essential events should be cancelled. No picnics, trips should be organized by the people", Dr. Jasinghe pointed out.

He stressed the fact some people gather without following the minimum distance, they keep their masks on their neck of chin and lift it up from time to time while touching the mask and the face which is a serious issue. Everybody should wear a mask whenever going out from home and they should cover both their nose and mouth, not only their mouth. They should keep at least one meter distance from each other all the time. Hands should be washed for 30 seconds using soap and water. If not standard hand sanitizer should be used whenever soap and water is not available. We observed that in some institutions soap has disappeared from some institutions while water is not available in some other institutions, he said.

Therefore it is the responsibility of everybody, state and private institutions to keep the status of health precautions by following all health guidelines all the time, he added.
