A total of 283 people have tested positive for COVID-19

Colombo, 10 July, (Asiantribune.com):

A total of 283 people from the Treatment & Rehabilitation Centre in Kandakadu have tested positive for COVID-19.

Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said all necessary measures have been taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within communities.

He said a Quarantine Facility operated by the Sri Lanka Army in Kandakadu was converted into a COVID-9 Treatment Hospital and the 253 COVID-19 patients from the Treatment & Rehabilitation Centre are treated at the converted hospital.

The Army Commander said there are two separate Treatment & Rehabilitation Centres namely Senapura and Kandakadu operating under the Ministry of Justice in the Polonnaruwa District.

There are 1150 inmates and staff at both these Treatment & Rehabilitation Centres and as this afternoon PCR tests result of around 375 people were received, said the Army Commander.

The Army Commander went on to note contact tracing is underway and contacts of the COVID-19 cases have already been placed in quarantine, by the security forces.
