Maverick Tamil leader M.K.Sivajilingham Arrested & Released

Colombo, 06 July, (Asiantribune.com):

M.K.Sivajilingham, one of the candidate of the Tamil Peoples National Alliance contesting in the Jaffna electoral district and a former Northern Provincial Councillor was arrested yesterday on the 5th of July, for evading the court proceedings, and subsequently has been released by the Magistrate Court in Point Pedro.

The Valvettithurai Police yesterday arrested former Northern Provincial Council member Sivajilingam, at his house on the court order.

The Point Pedro Magistrate has issued a warrant against Sivajilingam for avoiding court proceedings over a case in 2018.

Earlier, the court had issued notice on Sivajilingam over a case filed against him by the police for organizing an event in 2018 to commemorate LTTE cadres killed during the war.

After arrest he was produced in the courts.

Point Pedro Magistrate, Gayathri Sailawan later released Sivajilingam after a stern warning.

The judge announced that the case would be taken up again on January 20, 2021.
