Water levels of Kalu and Ging Ganga have reached at minor flood level

Colombo, 19 May, (Asiantribune.com):

Water levels of Kalu and Ging Ganga have reached at minor flood level at Thawalama and Baddegama due to prevailing heavy rivers. The Department of Irrigation has advised people in Neluwa, Thawalama and Kotapola to be vigilant.

People living along the banks of Kalu Ganga and especially people who live in Elapatha and Kuruwita are advised to be vigilant and have been advised to move to safer locations due to threat of floods.

A minor flood situation has also arisen in Ratnapura due to water levels risen in Kalu Ganga with heavy showers.

In the meantime, Nilwala River reached minor flood level at Panadugama and Pitabeddara areas.

Communities in flood plains of Pitabeddara, Akuressa and Athuraliya Divisional Secretariat divisions have been advised to evacuate to due to the prevailing situation.

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) says that the general public can contact the hotline 117 for further information on the matter.
