Politicians try to fish in troubled water

By S.H.Moulana

We wish peace and harmony while the minority Muslim community is celebrating its Eid festivities after 30-day-long fasting during the month of Ramadan.

We read with great concern and sadness of all what is happening back home after the cowardly act of few misguided extremists on the Easter Sunday.

Although the entire Muslim community was against the group which committed this mayhem it had to face the brunt of the reaction by some organized groups, which a large majority of the Sinhalese did not approve. There is no doubt that all these ugly incidents were politically motivated acts.

One cannot imagine that our country would ever face what it is going through now. Just a drop of a hat is good enough to cause a major clash among communities.

From the dawn of independent Sri Lanka we all dreamed of our country to become a role model for others but on the contrary we faced a destructive war for decades and being relieved from it, we now face this unrest created by some extremist elements.

Now those involved in the Easter Sunday massacre are either killed or taken under custody. Then why not we get back to our normal business and welcome our tourists and foreign investments back

We appeal to all politicians to forget their party differences and concentrate in bringing the country to normalcy for foreign countries to lift their travel advisories to their nationals.

Please think about your country first before you think about the cheap vote at the expense of defenseless minority community.

We appeal to Muslim community to forgive and forget of all took place since May 13 and celebrate your Eid festivities with your Sinhalese neighbors and friends as you were always doing in the past.

'Love makes our friends a little dearer. Joy makes our heart a little lighter.

Faith makes our path a little clearer.

Hope makes our life little brighter.

Peace brings us all a little nearer.'

Long live peace and harmony in our motherland.
