Jaffna, 18 June, (Asiantribune.com):

The Police has shot and killed a 32 years old V.Sutharsan, a Tamil civilian, yesterday night at Tellipalai and so far the reason for the police to open fire and killing the innocent civilian has not been clearly established.

‘Asian Tribune’ learns that the body of the deceased is being lodged in the mortuary of the Tellipalai Hospital.

Yesterday evening, a large number of people participated in the Tellipalai Church festival and at one stage, according to reports, clash between sword wielding two group was reported.

According to reports, Sutharsan was seen involved in making peace with the two groups and settle their disputes and suddenly police fired at the group and Sutharsan was shot at.

He was taken to the Base Hospital at Tellipalai, but it seems he has succumbed to the gunshot injury he sustained, reports reveal.

Mallakam Magistrate A Judson was seen mingling with the crowd aftermath of the gunshot injury and making investigation.

He was seen listening to complaints made by several people who have witnessed the shooting incident.

There is a confusion whether the policeman involved in the shooting of the civilian is from Tellipalai or Chunnakam Police Station?

Tellipalai Police are making investigation.
