Another President’s man arrested and remanded

Colombo, 16 May, (Asiantribune.com):

Another Sri Lanka President’s man, former State Timber Corporation Chairman Anuruddha Polgampola was arrested on 15th night by the Criminal Investigations Department, later produced in the courts and remanded till 18th May, by Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne today.

Anuruddha Polgampola was arrested last night in connection with a financial fraud of Rs. 8 million connected to the construction of the Northern Railway line.

This was the very man who was appointed as the chairman of the State Timber Corporation by President Maithripala Srisena, immediately after another two of President’s men - P. Dissanayake, the former chairman and Dr. I. K. Mahanama were arrested for soliciting a bribe of Rs. 20 million.

P. Dissanayake and Dr. I. K. Mahanama – the President’s Chief of Staff, who were involved in the incident are currently re-remanded and custody until the 22nd of May.

Earlier, former parliamentarian Anuruddha Polgampola has been appointed as the new Chairman of the State Timber Corporation.

Polgampola received his appointment letter Friday (04) evening from President Maithripala Sirisena at the President's Official residence.

However, it was reported that the appointment of Mr Polgampola as STC Chairman was suspended with immediate effect.

Subsequently, former UPFA defeated candidate Shantha Bandara has been appointed as the new Chairman of the State Timber Corporation.

He received the letter of appointment from President Maithripala Sirisena at the President’s Official Residence today (11), the President’s Media Division said.
