Neelakantan - Man who did yeoman service to Hinduism no more with us

Colombo, 19 February, (Asiantribune.com):

President of All Ceylon Hindu Congress Kandiah Neelakandan (71) passed away yesterday at a private hospital in Colombo.

He is from Karanavai South, was also the President of the Thiruketheeswaram Temple Restoration Society and Secretary of the Hindu Educational Society and a former President of the Sri Lanka - India Society.

A longstanding member of the Colombo based Tamil Sangam and has been on several occasions held the position of its President.

He was also a Patron of the Jaffna Hindu College Old Boys’ Association - Colombo.

He was one of those responsible for the emergence of the Tamil National Alliance and in the year 2001 worked for it.

He is a senior lawyer and the Precedent Partner of Neelakandan and Neelakandan Associates, (formerly known as Murugesu and Neelakandan.

He was called to the Bar as an Attorney -at- law of the Supreme Court in 1970. He was chief editor of the Bar Association Law Journal for many years.H e has written several books on Sri Lankan Company Law.

He was Group Deputy Chairman of George Steuart and Co, Sri Lanka's oldest company, from 2008 to 2012.

Neelakandan was a member of the Company Law Advisory Commission, the Law Commission of Sri Lanka and the Council of Legal Education.

He is survived by his three children - 2 sons and a daughter and all of them are practicing attorney-at –laws.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday according to his family members.
