No Tsunami Threat to Sri Lanka

Colombo, 15 November, (Asiantribune.com):

There is no Tsunami threat to Sri Lanka at the moment. Public urged not to panic over false rumours.

There have been reports of residents in areas in the Ampara District being alarmed and panicking due to the receding of sea water at the beaches in the area.

Meteorological Department said that the public will be informed regarding any such situations or risks if and when they occur through the proper channels at the earliest and that people with any doubts can obtain information easily through their nearest police station or Meteorological Department office.

Meteorological Department says that it is monitoring continuously such event.

However, according to the latest report of the Meteorology Department, sea areas off the coast extending from Matarav to Pottuvil via Hambantota could be fairly rough as the wind speed can increase up to 50 KMPH .

Latest Weather Report reveals that several spells of showers would occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Hambantota.

Mainly fair weather would prevail over other sea areas.
