Four Indian fishermen arrested off Delft

Jaffna, 08 November, (Asiantribune.com):

Sri Lanka Navy personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command, on routine patrol, apprehended on Tuesday 4 Indian fishermen hailing from Tamil Nadu's Pudukkottai, along with a fishing trawler for poaching in the Sri Lankan territorial waters West of Delft Island in the early hours of yesterday (07).

The arrested fishermen were brought to the naval base SLNS Uttara in Kankesanthurai and subsequently handed over to the Assistant Fisheries Director of Jaffna for legal action.

The seized trawler and fishing gear were retained at SLNS Elara in Karainagar, the navy media unit said.

Earlier on October 21, the Sri Lankan Navy apprehended four fishermen and seized one boat belonging to Thangachimadam, a central part of Rameswaram.

The fishermen were apprehended near Kachatheevu Island.

Earlier in October, eight fishermen were detained by the Sri Lankan Navy, while they were fishing near the Delft Island.

The fishermen belonged to Tamil Nadu's Rameswaram.
