Minister Rauf Hakeem reappointed leader of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress for the 17th time

Colombo, 14 February, (Asiantribune.com):

Minister Rauf Hakeem has been reappointed as the leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) for the 17th time at the Party's 27th general assembly held at the BMICH today.

Minister Hakim said that he would steer the party forward irrespective of hindrances and obstacles it faced.

He said he was happy to face the challenge. The government had been formed by not only the UNP and SLFP but also by other minority and minor parties. So the government had a duty to find solutions for their problems too. The new constitution and the new electoral system should be just by them too.

In the meantime, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress has appointed Mohamed Mansoor Cader as the General Secretary of the party replacing Hassan Ali by amending the SLMC constitution to exclude the post of Secretary General.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the SLMC High Command on Saturday evening and was announced at the SLMC’s 27th Delegates’ Meeting held at the BMICH on Sunday, 12th February, by party leader Minister Rauff Hakim.

Hassan Ali who held the post of General Secretary of the party had been asked to take the party chairman post but he had refused to accept it, according to the party.

Five deputy leaders have been appointed. They are AL Abdul Majeed, Hafiz Naseer Ahamed, Rawuther Naina Mohamed, H.M.M. Hareez and U.T.M. Anwar. Shafeek Rajabdeen has been appointed to the post of National Organizer. Nizam Kariyappar is the Deputy General Secretary. Former MP ASM Azlam has been appointed to the post of Treasurer.
