JVP attacks the Kamikaze ideology of UNESCO

Paris, 26 December, (Asiantribune.com): In critical statement of the role played by the Director General of the UNESCO, K. Matsura, the Janatha Vimukti Peramuna (JVP - People's Liberation Front) ), the third largest party in Sri Lanka, has questioned "the Kamikaze ideology and the partisan posturing for selective bombing of radio stations."

Matsura released a statement criticizing the Sri Lankan Air Force bombing the Voice of the Tigers (VOT, also known as the Voice of Terror). This statement raised a howl of protest from Sri Lankans who objected to the partisan role played by Matsura.

The JVPers who demonstrated opposite the UNESCO office issued a statement which said: "Reading through the statement made by your Excellency, for a moment we thought that the voices of the Kamikaze pilots of World War II had, in spite of it being stilled in its land of origin, once again being reborn. We were also perplexed that your organisation had not made any statement of condemnation when NATO bombs eliminated radio stations in Kosovo." The statement issued by Manel Gunawardene for the Committee in France Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna added: "We had also noted that when 60,000 persons died in the South of Sri Lanka in the late 1980s you had given an award for human rights for a woman who to our knowledge was completely absent from the human rights field."

"Under a more enlightened leadership UNESCO has helped Sri Lanka as indeed Sri Lanka helped UNESCO at times of its crisis. One of UNESCO's aims is to stand for science that is, for empirical truth. We demand that following the antifascist tradition of UNESCO you withdraw the completely unacceptable and untrue statement made by you and apologize for it," said the JVP.

The Director General UNESCO,
UNESCO
7, Place de Fontenay
75007 Paris

Dear Sir,

It was with astonishment that we read your recent statement condemning the attack by the Sri Lankan Air Force on that promoter of gross human rights violations the Voice of Tigers the official radio of the fascist LTTE.

UNESCO arose out of the ashes of World War II and the defeat of the ideologies and practices of Hitler and Mussolini. It arose at a time when the victorious Allied Powers were removing the poison of Nazi and fascist propaganda from the minds of the liberated Germans and Italians through major changes in the media and in school curricula. Most importantly the German anthem "Deutschland Uber Alles" was banned as was the book by Hitler "Mein Kampf". That philosophy of removing racial hatred and fascist intolerance was transferred to UNESCO itself -the Preamble to the Constitution of UNESCO declaring that "since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defences of peace must be constructed". At the beginning of UNESCO there was no equality made between the forces of darkness and forces of democracy and tolerance.

A direct follower of Hitler and his philosophy is the LTTE and its leader Prabhakaran. Like the Lebensraum of the Nazis it has demarcated a "racially pure" area as his Heimat- homeland from which all other ethnic communities have been ejected wherever it was possible. UNESCO under a more enlightened leadership had declared several ancient Sri Lankan sites as constituting part of the whole world's heritage, which heritage the LTTE has been busy physically dismantling stone by ancient stone to lay claims to its mythical homeland. Like the Nazis, Prabhakaran has killed off all the democratic Tamil leadership and brooks no dissent. He has assassinated a President of Sri Lanka and a Prime Minister of India and has unsuccessfully attempted the lives of another Sri Lankan President and one Prime Minister, in addition to several other successful and unsuccessful attempts on many other Sri Lankan leaders. Going beyond the tradition of Hitler Youth " Hitler Jugend", Prabhakaran kidnaps little children, trains them in a racist ideology and uses them as cannon fodder.

Following the example set by the fanatic Japanese Kamikaze of World War II Prabhakaran introduced suicide bombings to the modern world. In Prabhakaran's sick mind there is no room for tolerance, freedom of expression, human rights or democracy. Like in World War II, there is only one alternative left for the democratic forces in Sri Lanka that is to eliminate this intolerant cancer like the Allied Forces precursors to UNESCO did in the case of Hitler.

Reading through the statement made by your Excellency, for a moment we thought that the voices of the Kamikaze pilots of World War II had, in spite of it being stilled in its land of origin once again being reborn. We were also perplexed that your organization had not made any statement of condemnation when NATO bombs eliminated radio stations in Kosovo. We had also noted that when 60,000 persons died in the South of Sri Lanka in the late 1980s you had given an award for human rights for a woman who to our knowledge was completely absent from the human rights field.

UNESCO cannot be allowed to be the playing field of either Kamikaze ideology or of partisan posturing for selective bombing of radio stations. Under a more enlightened leadership UNESCO has helped Sri Lanka as indeed Sri Lanka helped UNESCO at times of its crisis. One of UNESCO's aims is to stand for science that is, for empirical truth. We demand that following the antifascist tradition of UNESCO you withdraw the completely unacceptable and untrue statement made by you and apologize for it.
With best wishes,

Yours truly,

Sgd. Manel Gunawardene
