LTTE in London hires Alexandra Palace Hall for Pounds 120,000 to hold “Tamizhar Thirunal”

Colombo, 06 December, (Asiantribune.com): The Tamil Tigers in London are making elaborate preparations to hold the Thai Pongal festival, “Tamizhar Thirunal” - the festival of Tamils, on 12 January next year, at Alexandra Palace Hall located in Wood green, which is one of the largest banqueting halls in London steeped in Victorian elegance.

The White Pigeon, led by Ayurvedic Dr.N.Sathiamoorthy, functions as substitute to TRO in the United Kingdom. According to reports White Pigeon is making arrangements on behalf of the LTTE to hold the Thai Pongal celebrations by hiring out the Alexandra Palace hall for British Sterling Pounds 120,000.

The Tigers in London expect 20,000 people to participate in the event. Earlier in December 2006, Tigers held the funeral ceremony of Anton Balasingham in the same hall.

The Pongal festival is referred as Tamizhar Thirunal" meaning "the festival of Tamils" normally falls on 14 of January almost each year. In fact this is a harvest festival - the Tamil equivalent of Thanksgiving. It is held to honor the Sun, for a bountiful harvest. Families gather to rejoice and share their joy and their harvests with others. The Sun is offered a "Pongal" of rice and milk.
