Sri Lanka Consulate in Los Angeles Launches Fund Raiser to help Destitute families in Southern California

Los Angeles, California, 26 October ( The office of the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles in the State of California has launched a fund raiser to help destitute families in Southern California who were displaced and faced material losses due to the devastating fire that engulfed many parts of Southern California.

The fund raiser will be held at the Consulate General office at 3250 Wilshire Blvd, Suit 1405, Los Angeles California 90010 on Saturday, October 27 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon.

The event was initiated by Sri Lanka Consul General Jaliya Wickremasuriya.

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles has organized a special fundraiser this Saturday, October 27th to help provide much needed financial assistance to underserved communities and lower-income households who have been displaced due to this natural disaster. The money collected will be donated to the Red Cross.

"Americans resident in Southern California contributed greatly to Sri Lanka during our tsunami disaster," commented Jaliya Wickramasuriya, Consul General, "We look forward to returning the favor and doing whatever we can to assist families in need who have been hurt by these devastating fires. We encourage all the local Sri Lankan community to join us in this important humanitarian effort on Saturday, Oct. 27th”.

The Office of the Consulate General of Sri Lanka announcing this event says that this is a great way to help needy families who are suffering as a result of the fires when they most need assistance. Also, it is a meaningful way for the local Sri Lankan expatriate community to express our gratitude to Americans in Southern California who helped us during the tsunami.

Many parts in the State of California were engulfed in a fire that destroyed about 10,000 houses and displaced bout 500,000 families. The federal government has declared the state as an emergency disaster area.
