Sri Lanka Police Chief in Anuradhapura to assess the security situation

Colombo, 23 October, (Asiantribune.com):Police Chief Victor Perera is in Anuradhapura to assess the security situation in the area. A special meeting held with the participation of the IGP and senior police officials in Anuradhapura.

The special attention was to be paid during the talks on yesterday’s attack on the Anuradhapura air base and subsequent investigations into the incident.

The police and army have stepped up security in the area. Meanwhile, Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said security in defence establishments in Anuradhapura has been strengthened following Monday’s attack. Bodies of the terrorists who were killed in the attack will be handed over to the LTTE through International Committee of Red Cross.

According to the local Police sources the day-to-day life in Anuradhapura town is brought back to normalcy. Anuradhapura Police says the situation is fully under control. The Government sources reveal the operations in Air Force base have also been streamlined.

Two special committees have been appointed to investigate the LTTE attack on the Anuradhapura Air Force base and the helicopter crash in Mihintale during the wee hours of Monday.

The Air Force chief has appointed a 5-member committee to probe the attack on the Air Force Base. Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara speaking to media said another committee comprising 4 officers has been appointed to investigate the crash of Bell 212 helicopter in the Doramadalawa area in Mihintale.
