FCCISL SME Machinery Exhibition 2007 is ready to be launched

Colombo, 23 October, ( All arrangements are now complete to hold the SME Machinery Exhibition organized by the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) from 2nd to 4th November at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH).

Small and Medium Enterprise Developers (SMED), the SME arm of FCCISL established jointly with the Friedrich Naumenn Stiftung (FNSt) organizes this SME 2007 Machinery Exhibition in collaboration with the Ministry of Industrial Development. The theme for the exhibition is “Technology for Rural, Micro and SME Development.

Samantha Abeywickrama, Secretary General/CEO FCCISL explaining the importance of this most sought after Machinery Exhibition said that the main purpose of this annual exhibition is taking the new technology to rural villages and strengthens the SME sector of the country, specially the rural sector in achieving efficiency and productivity.

They also expect to achieve the following objectives such as strengthening the SME sector and organizations which represent the SME sector, promotion of Industrial growth and generation of employment. Services such as consultancy services and training; trade facilitation; subcontracting and partnership exchange services and policy advocacy are also promoted.

There will also be parallel events like, “Reverse Fair” – Large companies to exhibit items for subcontracting to SMEs, Investor’s pavilion and eco-pavilion. He said that this is the second time they are organizing this Machinery Exhibition and 123 organizations have booked 136 stalls to exhibit their different types of machinery. They hope to have 150 stalls. There would be machinery, ancillary equipment; processes, methods and new technology are all that will be available at the exhibition venue.

Abewickrama said that the Exhibition is open for the public and said that during the last exhibition more than 10,000 people visited it and this time they expect more than 15,000. He said that through their strong regional Chamber network large number of rural SME sector participation is promoted.

Large number of machinery for manufacturing various items with particular bias on rural industry will be exhibited. There is a long range including, food processing, coconut based products manufacture; rice and other agro processing; dairy/farm equipment; metal working, plastics and fibre glass; rubber and rubber products machinery; welding equipment; electrical machinery; plastic recycling/recovery machinery and the range further continues.

Other service providers such as IT Services, Design Aids, Accounting Software, Communication Equipment, Entrepreneurship development, environmental services, pollution control, energy management/equipment, factory installation and safety equipment supplies, will also be available at the Exhibition site.
