New Country Director for UNIDO Sri Lanka

Colombo, 22 October, (Asiantribune.com): Nawaz Rajabdeen, a veteran businessman and an industrialist who has been in the Chamber activities for the last 30 years and who became the President, Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka for the third consecutive year has now been appointed the National Director, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (NNIDo) - national focal point in Sri Lanka. The appointment has been made by Kumara WElgama, Minister of Industrial Development in developing policies, strategies and implementing programmes towards overall industrial development in the country.Nawaz Rajabdeen is also the Vice President of World Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (WASME) and SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.Nawaz Rajabdeen is also the Vice President of World Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (WASME) and SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Before taking over as the Country Director UNIDO, Rajabdeen has served as a member of the UNIDO Steering Committee.

His taking over the UNIDO office in Sri Lanka will add weight to pro-business and pro-industry type polices and strategies to be executed in the overall industrial development efforts in Sri Lanka. The new responsibility will also include developing a strategy framework of cooperation supported by a rigorous work programme, a comprehensive monitoring mechanism and strong partnerships with stakeholders with emphasis on the business community.

Rajabdeen will also facilitate in particular the interaction of the UNIDO programme with the Sri Lankan business community and help to identify suitable counterparts amon the various chambers and industry associations at local and national levels as well as sectoral levels.

He is also the Vice President of World Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (WASME) and SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
