India opposes Mavai Senathirajah
Latest reports reveals that India has indicated its displeasure over the consideration of Mavai Senathirajah as the chief minister candidate of the Tamil National Alliance in the forthcoming North Provincial Council election.
Indian intelligence agency RAW – Research Analysis Wing , it seems to have notified to TNA leadership that Mavai Senathirajah was unacceptable to India as he was the person who forcefully brought the moderate Tamil political leaders into the fold of the LTTE in 2004, despite requests and warning by India.
Furthermore, there are allegations against Mavai Senathirajah’s involvement in the tragic episode of the assassination of Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) Secretary General A. Amirthalingham, Yogeswaran and the shooting of M.Sivasithamparam who was at that time the President of the TULF.
Asian Tribune also learnt that representatives of a few leading Tamil Dispora organizations in Europe too has indicated their opposition to Mavai Senathirajah’s nomination as the Chief Minister candidate for the North Provincial Council.
On Friday 12 July, the Coordinating Committee of the TNA, which is now considered as the Supreme Council met in Colombo and they failed to reach any consensus on the nomination of the Chief Minister candidate and decided to hold the meeting again yesterday evening in Colombo.
But the meeting scheduled for yesterday has been postponed to Monday morning at 9 AM, in the TNA Party office in Colombo.
The constituent parties of the TNA has requested to cancel yesterday’s meeting to enable each party to meet separately and decide on the issue of nominating a suitable person as the TNA’s Chief Minister candidate.
Asian Tribune also learnt that Mr. R.Sampanthan insists that retired Supreme Court Justice Mr. C.V.Vigneswaran should be considered as the common candidate for chief minister position on behalf of TNA.
Mr. Sampanthan as well as retd. Justice Vigneswaran are both from Trincomalee in the East of the country.
Presently Vigneswaran is from Colombo and he has no involvement in the North except he was a Magistrate in 1979 - 80 in the Mallakam Magistrate court.
It is said that East is trying to dominate the North by nominating a person from the East as the Chief Minister candidate.
Even his son is married to Minister Vasudeva Nanykkara in the South.
In the meantime, names of Mr. V.T.Tamilmaran , Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, as well as Prof. S.K.Sittampalam too are emerging for Chief Minister nomination.
Asian Tribune also learnt the present President of TULF Mr. V.Anandasangree is away in India and he is expected to return by 17th of this month.
TNA bigwigs are trying to finalize the Chief Minister candidate before the arrival of Anandasangree to avoid him seeking nomination.
