What more Mahela can give his hungry fans?

By S.H.Moulana - Riyadh

What Mahela Jayawardena did at Sabina Park in the Caribbean, in 2007, in the World Cup semifinal, against New Zealand, followed by his super entertainment he provided with his 103 from 88 in the World Cup final against India at the Wankhede and now his class act at the Oval against Australia, in the ICC Champion Trophy, have prompted many pundits of the game to shower their unreserved praises on this unique player.

Some of these comments in fact brought tears of joy to my eyes, which I would like to share with the readers: “I cannot think of any batsman who can be lethal in all three formats as Mahela” says one.

Another goes further to say “The beauty of Mahela is not only is he dominant in all formats but also the way he has adapted to the changing game.

Before T/20 he never played any over the shoulder, reverse or sweeps a ball outside the off stump.

He has re-invented his attacking style from school days for the newer formats. He has every shot in the book, all around the wicket.”

The comment which really touched my heart was “He is by far one of the nicest guys a fan can meet and exchange few words. He is a genuine family man, who loves his wife, parents and loyal to his friends. At the end of the day no static or average could beat it!”

Mahela is a class act and one of the greats. He is such a delight to watch when he is in full flow. He is the only player who steps up in vital moment.

It will be interesting to see how he plays against India on Thursday in the semifinal of the ongoing ICC Champion Trophy.

I would love to see him playing a match winning knock. Whatever the result may be, a masterly innings from the delightful batsman Mahela will be highly satisfying for all the die-hard cricket fans from all over the world.

Being a Thursday, expatriate cricket fans, in the gulf, from the subcontinent will be glued to the TV.

What more Mahela can give his hungry fans other than another class act. We wish him all the best!
