Sabalingham while he was a student at the Kattubedde Engineering College was one of the pioneers along with Ponnudurai Satyaseelan and others in the early 1970’s to organize the Tamil Manavar Perravai (Tamil Student League), which was one of the early militant organizations.

Velupillai Prabakaran was very close with him when he organized the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

He was arrested by the Sri Lanka Police and held in custody incommunicado in the notorious 4th Floor for investigations. While under police custody he suffered untold sufferings and torture.

Later Sabalingham fled Sri Lanka and sought asylum in France. While in France he raised voice against human rights violations in Sri Lanka both by the Government and Tamil Tigers.

He showed keen interest in collecting documents which depicted details of the human rights violations and abuses against Sri Lankan Tamils. While he was compiling and arranging to publish those documents in a book form, he was shot and killed by the LTTE operatives on the May Day - 01 May 1994, at his house in Sarcelles, France.
