Flood victims to probe the disbursement of funds allotted to their welfare

By Quintus Perera - Asian Tribune

Colombo, 22 April, (Asiantribune.com): The last December flood victims of the areas of Ja-Ela, Gampaha etc are perturbed to note that the authorities have spent around Rs 600 million on supplying the victims food parcels alone and there has been doubts raised as to whether funds were used for the actual purpose.

A group of these victims organized under the auspicious of the Gampaha District Committee of the Human Rights Forum have determined to probe these spending.

Further they have learnt that after the floods the authorities have spent a colossal amount of money on the pretext of constructing and repairing damaged and destroyed irrigation channels, which too appeared to be suspicious.

These victims have decided to meet the relevant authorities to ascertain as to the exact position on these spending of public funds and whether these funds were disbursed on the right purpose.

They would also propose a course of action, if they find that these funds were used on wrong purpose and whether they have been defrauded.
