Sunil C. Perera - Repoorting from Colombo

Colombo, 11 April, (Asiantribune.com): Dakshitha Thalgodapitiya, CEO/Secretary General of the Chamber of Construction Industry Sri Lanka said theChamber of Construction Industry Sri Lanka will introduce manufactured sand to Sri Lankan construction industry at its Annual Trade Fair – “Excon 2007”, which will be held during the period 11th to 13th May 2007 at BMICH.

Metso Minerals of New Zealand pioneers in the production of Barmac Crushing Plants will carryout practical demonstrations at “Excon 2007”. All Quarry Operators numbering over 1500 and registered with the Geological Surveys and Mines Bureau have been invited to attend a Seminar that will be held on 12th May 2007 at BMICH.

With a world wide decline in the availability of construction sands along with the environmental pressures to reduce extraction of sand from rivers, the use of manufactured sand as a replacement is increasing. Manufactured sand is a result of rock-on-rock crushing.

The initiative of the Chamber to introduce manufactured sand to Domestic Construction Industry will enhance financial viability of quarry operations in Sri Lanka . In order to assist Quarry Operators who are mostly from the SME Sector, Chamber has also invited Finance Leasing companies and Insurance Companies to participate at this Excon 2007.

Construction Chambers Financial Experts will be present at the trade fair to promote linkages between Quarry Operators and Finance Leasing Companies, Banks and Insurance Companies to make manufactured sand a reality on an island wide basis.
