Some Tamil journalists in Tamil Nadu in the pay of LTTE

Chennai, 03 April, ( Editors of the print versions of the Tamil daily newspapers published from Chennai in Tamil Nadu are paid Rs.50, 000 per month by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. A slush fund to make payment to the Editors are reported to be handled by Subaveerapandian, General Secretary of the Tamil Deshiya Iyakkam (Tamil Nationalist Movement) led by P. Nedumaran.

Subaveerapandian was one of those arrested earlier under now defunct POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act of 2002), for speaking in favor of the Tamil Tigers at a meeting in Chennai on April 13, 2002. He was in jail for 19 months before securing bail.

According to reports Tamil Deshiya Iyakkam led by Nedumaran is said to be the proxy party of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam is duty bound to look after the interests of the Tamil Tigers in Tamil Nadu.

Accordingly, sources who wish to remain anonymous told “Asian Tribune” that almost all the Editors of the leading Tamil dailies, as well as a handful of leading popular Tamil weeklies are in the payroll of the Tigers.

Tamil news daily editors are said to be paid Indian Rs.50, 000 and popular Tamil weekly editors are paid Rs.30,000/= per month.

The sources further revealed that money is paid to Tamil Editors to write favorably about the Tamil Tigers and also not to publish any anti-Tiger news items in their broadsheets and weekly journals.

According to a latest survey, only English news daily “The Hindu” carries news about Tamil Tigers even exposing them for their atrocities in Sri Lanka, India and internationally.

Furthermore, it is only Jaya TV, a television channel owned by Dinakaran AIDMK MP, carries news items in their TV channels exposing the Tamil Tigers, its link with the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and with poetess Kanimoli, daughter of M.Karunanidhi, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
