Rishad Bathiyudeen Released on Bail

Colombo, 28 August, (Asiantribune.c0m):

The Mannar Magistrate granted bail on the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Rishad Bathiudeen who was summoned in connection with alleged threat on the Mannar Magistrate.

Bathiudeen was released on a Rs. 10,000 of cash bail and surety bail with two sureties each Rs. 500,000.

On August 13, the Minister was issued notice to appear before court in connection with a alleged threat to Mannar Magistrate to change an arrest order. In another case, thirteen persons have been arrested for waging an assault on the Mannar Court complex.

On the same issue the Appeal Court had also summoned Minister Bathiudeen to personally appear before court on September 5.

Yesterday, at the outset, Senior State Counsel Sudharshana de Silva who appeared with IP Roshan Masimbulla of the CID submitted that a dossier of investigations had been forwarded to the Attorney General for advice.

M N Zuhair, PC moving for bail for Bathiudeen submitted the minister had come in respect of summons issued by court.

Attorneys at law Anura Medagoda, Shiraz Noordeen, N M Zaheed, Hijaz Hizbullah, Mishmi Godellawatte and M I Samsudeen also appeared for the minister.

Bar Association former Secretary Udaya Roshan de Silva along with Rasika Dissanayake and Ranjith Haturusinghe watched the interests of the Bar Association.
