Tehran, 12 August, (Asiantribune.com):
Between 40 and 50 people are initially reported to have died, after two strong earthquakes hit the major Iranian city of Tabriz Saturday afternoon.
The two tremors are estimated to be of 6.0 and 6.2 degree on the Richter scale, with an epicenter near Tabriz in north-eastern Iran.
The earthquake caused an interruption in mobile and cable telecommunications, as well as electricity, which has hindered quick reporting from the area.
Some 400 people are estimated to have been injured during the earthquake.
