All set for Tamil National Alliance to take over the Eastern Provincial Council - Claims Sivajilingham
The Tamil National Alliance will take over the Eastern Provincial Council says M.K.Sivajilingham, one of the leaders of the TNA.He added that TNA would coalesce with Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and take over the Provincial Council, but he denied of any secret agreement with the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress.
Speaking to Asian Tribune from Trincomalee while on his election campaign trail, he said that TNA would emerge the single largest party in this Provincial Council Election.
He said that the TNA would easily win 14 councilor seats. He explained that they will win minimum of 4 seats in Trincomalee, 6 in Batticaloa and 2 in Amparai district.
After the voting is over, he said that TNA would emerge the single largest party and would get the 2 bonus seats, which are up for grab and that would take their seat tally to 16.
Mr. Sivajilingham said, out of the 37 councilor seats TNA might need another three seats to establish majority and they would be supported by the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress.
When Asian Tribune pointed out that though Sri Lanka Muslim Congress is contesting independently, the Party leader Mr. Rauf Hakeem has claimed that his party is a constituent party with UPFA and how it would be possible for Muslim Congress to extend their support to the TNA?
Mr. Sivajilingham said that anything might happen in politics and one has to wait and see after the voting, for the unfolding political drama.
When asked whether there is any secret agreement TNA has with the Muslim Congress, he said that there is no such agreement and in case Muslim Congress fails to come forward for a coalition with the TNA, then they would go for the support of the smaller parties or else they might try to rope in the independent group/s, which emerges victorious.
The TNA leader Sivajilingham when responding to another question whether TNA would come forward to obtain the support of the UNP, he was reticent and said so far the TNA has not contacted UNP on this subject.
When responding to another question raised by Asian Tribune Mr. Sivajilingham said that TNA candidates are contesting in the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchchi ticket in all the 3 districts - Batticalo – 14 candidates, Trincomalee 13 candidates and Amparai 17 candidates and a total of 44 candidates are in the fray and all are in the nomination lists of the ITAK Party in all the 3 districts.
He said TELO is contesting in 6 seats – Batticaloa 2 ,Trincomalee 1 and 3 in Amparai; EPRLF has 3 candidates - Batticaloa 1 and Amparai 2; TULF is contesting in 2 seats – Trincomalee 1 and 1 in Batticaloa and PLOTE has 2 seats – Trincomalee 1 & 1 in Batticaloa.
The balance 31 seats are dominated by the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchchi said Mr. Sivajilingham.
