Visit of Mr. Wolfgang Waldner, State Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Austria

The State Secretary (Deputy Minister) of Foreign Affairs of Austria, Mr. Wolfgang Waldner called on Neomal Perera, Deputy Minister of External Affairs yesterday (30/04) at the Ministry of External Affairs.

The Austrian State Secretary of Foreign Affairs is on a visit to Sri Lanka at present, leading a five-member delegation.

The two Deputy Ministers discussed a wide range of bilateral issues including the strengthening of trade relations, promotion of tourism and potential for foreign direct investments.

Deputy Minister Perera briefed the visiting Austrian State Secretary on the post-conflict developments in Sri Lanka and the steps taken by the Government to resettle displaced persons, rehabilitate ex-combatants, rebuild infrastructure and bring about reconciliation.

State Secretary Waldner appreciated the positive developments in Sri Lanka and expressed Austria’s desire to further strengthen bilateral relations.

During his visit to Sri Lanka, Mr. Waldner also met with Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa and attended a meeting with the business community at the National Chamber of Commerce.
