Moderate polling in Delhi civic polls
An estimated 55 to 60 per cent voting took place in the elections for the trifurcated Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Sunday, Delhi Election Commissioner Rakesh Mefta said.
"An estimated 55 to 60 per cent of people came out to vote but the exact figure will be available by tomorrow (Monday) morning," said Mehta.
Earlier, voting for the MCD elections picked up as the day progressed Sunday with around 30 per cent voters turning up to exercise their franchise till afternoon. Delhi saw an average 12 to 15 per cent polling during the first three hours, but people started stepping out of their homes as the day progressed. Voting touched 30 per cent till 2pm, an official said.
Voting for the 272 seats began at 8am amid tight security.
The elections are witnessing a tough fight between the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress.
