Yet another MLA dies in Road Accident: Young Turk belongs to CPI

The Communist Party of India (CPI) MLA representing Pudukottai, S.P. Muthukumaran, died in a road accident near Annavasal in Pudukottai district on Sunday morning.

Mr. Muthukumaran, also the district secretary of the party, was said to be on his way to Annavasal when the accident took place on the Pudukottai-Annavasal Road.

The car in which he was travelling overturned reportedly after a tyre burst. He died on the spot. The driver and the other person in the car were injured and have been rushed to the Pudukottai GH.

Mr. Muthukumaran, aged 43, is a first time MLA from the Pudukottai constituency who won by a narrow margin of about 2,000 votes against the DMK’s Periannan Arasu in 2011.

It may be recalled that last year after the elections, one Mariam Pitchai of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(AIADMK) elected to the assembly from Tiruchy became as a minister. He lost his life in a road accident within a span of five days after the oath taking ceremony.
