Sri Lankan Tamils Should Be Given Equal Rights - Cho Ramasamy
Sri Lankan Government has to give equal rights to the Tamils of Sri Lanka. It is important and India expects Sri Lanka Government under President Mahinda Rajapaksa is saner enough to do so.
Political satirist Cho Ramasamy, former cine actor, editor of weekly Tamil magazine ‘Thuglak’ since 14 January 1970 and the BJP Rajya Sabah Ex MP was speaking to Asian Tribune.
When asked for his comments about the prevailing political situation in Sri Lanka he said that the “Tamils of Sri Lanka should be treated equally”.
“I am waiting to see what the Sri Lankan Government is going to do there regarding their rehabilitation and also regarding amending the constitution to give equal rights to the Tamils of Sri Lanka,” he said
Cho Ramasamy is a Brahmin and it is well known that he has the ears of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ms. J. Jayalalithaa.
When speaking to Asian Tribune he confidently said, “I am sure that the Sri Lankan Government will do it, because the Indian Government is applying the required pressure.”
When asked him whether he is prepared to visit Sri Lanka and he bluntly refused. He said that I don’t think I can do it and even in Tamil Nadu I am not going out of Chennai.
Thuglak is a Tamil language weekly news magazine and easily has a weekly circulation of well over 170,000 copies and is very popular in the midst of the educated readership. The magazine features on its front cover a satirical cartoon, pertinent to an issue of current social and public interest.
When Asian Tribune asked for his comment about the outcome of the recent Tamil Nadu State Assembly elections, he said, “Yes it was obvious that it is going to happen and I was predicting it for quite some time even before the Assembly elections. And it is a good thing. It was unfortunate that Tamil Nadu became the property of one family and there were lot of corruptions and inefficiency in the administration, he alleged.
All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam led by J. Jayalalitha has won the Tamil Nadu assembly elections 2011. AIADMK party has successfully swept 192 seats out of 234 in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2011, while the ruling DMK party led by M. Karunanidhi has managed to win just 25 seats only.
Ms. J. Jayalalitha on her victory speech said as Tamils, it is our duty to ensure a good life for the Tamils in Sri Lanka. If Sri Lanka government did not oblige to these requests, Indian government has to impose economic sanctions on Sri Lanka together with other countries.
