Nepal prepares to hold cabinet meeting at Everest Base Camp

Kosh R. Koirala reporting from Nepal
Kathmandu, 03 November, (Asiantribune.com):

After Maldives it is now the turn of Nepal to draw attention of the world towards climate change.

Nepal government is planning to hold cabinet meeting at the base of Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world, to draw attention of the world towards the effects of climate change in Himalayas.

According to Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation, all the ministers will be flown to the Everest Base Camp sometime during next months to hold a cabinet meeting. The agenda of the cabinet meeting will be issues related to climate change and global warming.

The government decision comes in the wake of Maldives government holding its cabinet meeting five meters underwater to highlight the threat of global warming on October 17. The meeting at the Everest Base Camp will be held before the conference on Climate Change in the Himalayas at Copenhagen scheduled to be organized on the occasion of International Mountain Day on December 11.

Officials said the main objective of holding the meeting at Everest Base camp is to draw attention of the world, especially the developed countries, towards the impacts of the climate change in the Himalayas. “The meeting will be focused on discussing measures to mitigate the impacts of climate change by using local resources,” Minister Bohora said.
