Ten Lankan fishermen arrested off Chennai in Andhra waters

Chennai, 29 September (Asiantribune.com):

Ten Sri Lankan fishermen, who were poaching in two trawlers, near Ramayyapattinam in Tamil Nadu-Andhra border were arrested by the Indian Coast Guard.

They were fishing near the Andhra coast, crossing the Indian coast line. The Coast Guard approached them in suspicion and found them to be Sri Lankan fishermen. They were brought to the Royapuram police station.

The police seized their nets, 30 kilos of fish and the two trawlers.

They were produced before the George Town court and the Magistrate ordered for 15 days custody. They have been lodged in Puzhal prison.

The names of the arrested are: Fernando (47), Swarnasingha (47), Sanjeeva (38) Suganpoonga (28) Janarth Prusha (24), Amerasena (18) Nandana (18), Arumasena (28), Janath (50) and Saparpana (25).
