Inauguration of the 14th Annual Academic Session of the CCPL

Colombo, 13 September, (Asiantribune.com):

The fourteenth Annual Academic Session of the College of Community Physicians of Sri Lanka (CCPL) was inaugurated on the 9th of September 2009. The Chief Guest at the inauguration ceremony was Dr. Firdosi Rustom Mehta, the Country Representative of the World Health Organization.

The CCPL oration 2009 was delivered by Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne, Executive Director of Sri Lanka Sarvodaya Movement and the topic was “Caring for the Internally Displaced: A Personal Journey of a Community Physician”. Four distinguished doctors who have rendered yeomen service to public health in the country, region and the world were honored with Fellowships of the College.

The Annual Academic Sessions were conducted for 3 more days at Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo, with many Symposia and free papers on topics of public health, health medical importance.

The CCPSL is the first professional association of public health officers in Sri Lanka formed in 1927 as the Society of Medical Officers of Health and after many name changes, became the CCPSL in 1994.

The members of the College are specialists in Community Medicine and Master’s Degree holders in Community Medicine. In addition to these professionals, there are members from other specialists as well.

The members have and are holding many key positions in the Ministry of Health and other regional and international organizations in the fields of Maternal and Child Health, control and prevention of Communicable and Non-communicable diseases, programme planning, research, public health education etc.
