[b]Colombo, 14 April, (Asiantribune.com):[/b] Pointing the finger directly at the LTTE for provoking the latest violence in Trincomalee the TamilEela Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP -- Col Karuna's Group) has appealed to all communities not to fall into the trap laid by the Tigers to inflame communal passions.
The Political Secretariat of TMVP in a statement released today condemned the violence unleashed by the LTTE in Trincomalee. The statement said that the LTTE is resorting to pit one community against the other because it is losing its grip among the Tamil . They also know that they are weakened politically, militarily and internationally. Their tactic is to provoke attacks against the Tamils hoping that the Tamil people will come running to them. The Tamil people know that they would not have been forced into this situation if the LTTE stopped provoking other communities to attack the Tamils. Nor would the Tamils be in this plight today if the LTTE changed its policies and negotiated a peaceful settlement, said TMVP.
It added: "Provoking inter-ethnic clashes has been the standard practice of the LTTE in the past. The attacks on the Sri Maha Bodiya, the Sacred Temple of the Tooth in Kandy and the Mosques in Kathakuddy are some of the attempts made by the LTTE to put one community against the other. Fortunately, brotherly communities did not fall for this trap. If the other communities reacted then the LTTE would have won. LTTE lost because the other communities rejected the provocative violence of the LTTE. We appeal to all communities not to be provoked by the brutalities of the LTTE because they have nothing to gain by retaliating. Now is the time the people must act wisely with patience.
