Imagine a land where the ultimate heroine is a woman who, in order to kill an enemy blows up herself and her unborn child. According to media reports preliminary investigations have revealed that the woman suicide bomber who blew herself up in an attempt to assassinate the Lankan Army Commander was actually pregnant. Since pregnancy was the tactic used by the suicide bomber to gain access to the Army Headquarters via the Army Hospital, it is logical to surmise that either she became pregnant on purpose or the Tigers asked for and obtained the services of Black Tiger member who was already pregnant.

Given the youthfulness of the suicide bomber (she was only 21) it is highly likely that she joined (or was conscripted by) the LTTE as a child soldier. The story of this one woman, possible child soldier and pregnant Black Tigress, is symbolic in understanding the psychological state of the LTTE and what this unique mindset presages for Sri Lanka and for the Tamil people.

The Inimitable Tiger

Prabhakaran is not for a peaceful solution and his only desire is for a total war and soon he will create and have probably his last war.Since that is his wish think it's correct to assume people who are supporting him too want a war.If not they should be objecting to the policy adopted by him.

If and when there is a war because of him there would be civilian casualties from both sides. That is the nature of a war ugly and brutal. The aerial bombing is a direct consequance of the suicide bombing carried out without any regards to the CFA and it's useless pointing out about just one incident, the mother holding a baby being hit by bombs. The blame should go to the person who is responsible for the suicide bombing and starting the mess first.

There is also a saying in the country when someone is trampled by an elephant it's nonsensical to ask whether the person passed urine and soiled at the same time.Likewise it's useless talk about casualties during a war because up to know don't think there was never a war that didn't spill no blood.

Dear True Reporter,
This is call journalism. This is not even in Sri Lanka, when you watch the CNN you’ll see it in IRAQ war and Afghanistan war news.

For an example, if you read a Canadian Tamil journalist’s reports (writing) (who writes in English and Tamil) you can see it. He is the person only promoted LTTE in Canada by his writing until Mathaya’s dead (broken his leg). Those days this journalist in English wrote different stories and in his Tamil paper wrote different stories. And tried his best to come as WTM’s “Ullaka Thamilar’s” chief editor, but his fate they broke his leg. Still if you read his articles about “after the Tsunami” and about the Trinco violence you’ll know.

So we HUMANS have to check the reality.

Praising the Tiger

The latest article from Tisaranee Gunasekara sounds like an encomium for the Tigers. My comments are given only because I have been monitoring writing about the Sri Lankan problem, and there has been a dearth recently. Few have dared to opinionate and many of the comments made are the usual stuff of frustration and anger, not reasoned comment.

The phenomenon of the suicide bomber is one of the great mysteries of our time. Psychologists have mulled over it but no one has the complete answer. At least there is an explanation regarding the Islamic suicide bombers. The are said to be promised instant access to paradise with an unlimited supply of houris. But what awaits the LTTE suicide bomber? Certainly none of this is promised. Their reward is said to come before – in the final meal with the LTTE supremo. It is said that there is a large contingent of Black Tigers ready to make the final sacrifice, so the notion that the LTTE has to kidnap unwilling child soldiers looks a little unconvincing. After all if there are cardres ready to sacrifice themselves would there not be children who are attracted to the glory of fighting with sophisticated weapons? It is the power of indoctrination that we see in the Black Tiger, a power that is as compelling as religious indoctrination. Organizations like the Catholic church know the value of childhood conditioning. This is what the Tigers do to the children they mould. Just as a Jesuhela will not renounce his God however convincing your arguments against the Christian superstition is, and however educated that Christian is, so once the Tigers indoctrinate a child in their doctrine of race-hate that child can easily grow up to be a suicide bomber.

Tisaranee's double standards still continue. When Tamil children and mothers are killed it is by "sinhala mobs", but when Sinhala children and mothers are killed it is by the LTTE, not by Tamil mobs. She seems to believe that all non-LTTE Tamils are wholly innocent but there are no wholly innocent non-goon Sinhalas. That is all Sinhalas are potential killers of children, but not all Tamils but only the LTTE. But this is a constant bias of this writer which we may well set aside.

The idea that the sacrifice of this suicide bomber was in vain simply because the Army commander was only injured, not killed is not correct. The power of the suicide bomber let loose in the metropolis is the fear it inculcates in the ordinary resident of Colombo. They were celebrating the absence of the suicide bomber since the CFA was given, not they will think that they must make more concessions to gain another lease of time without suicide bombings in the capital. And the LTTE knows that when the Army Commander resumes duties after his recovery will not the be same as the person before. There is the example of Chandrika Bandaranike who after losing her eye to the LTTE became more conciliatory to the Tiger. Even though the suicide bomber failed in her primary task this is still a possibility. The Tigers are also well aware that after the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi India was completely neutralised from intervening in SL again.

The notion that the LTTE is planing a "Peoples' War" is not correct. Of course popular agitation will always be used for propaganda if not for anything else. But the LTTE has always relied on military force. That is why the response to the LTTE must be military force. But the President under his Chintanaya has vowed not to use the military option. So the LTTE has nothing to fear, and will use popular agitation to maintain the myth that the Tamils are a beleaguered lot. Besides it has achieved a significant goal by getting a de facto Eelaam and their immediate objective is to enlarge by including the Trinco region and the Jaffna peninsula.

Tisaranee's solution is to give devolution. But whatever the name used (Federal or non-Federal) it will be racial separation and cannot be compared to the successful Federations in the world that are not racially based. In SL racially based devolution is never going to be a permanent solution. Sooner or later racial units will break apart as in Yugoslavia. The LTTE is the only body capable of capitalising on this. So this line of argument is a non-solution. Her other solution of putting some non-Sinhala faces in TV discussions, committees etc. will not mean much. Most Tamils will prefer to remain silent and enigmatic. No one really knows on which side a given Tamil is.

Only in one thing is Tisaranee correct. The LTTE will never give up without being militarily defeated. The Fourth (or Fifth) Eelaam War is an inevitability; in fact it may have already started. Only GOSL does not seem to know, and is totally unprepared for it.
