IAEA chief declares any attack on Iran “an act of madness”

The latest meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which ended on Thursday, has set the stage for a new round of punitive measures against Iran over its nuclear programs. Washington is pressing for a third round of UN Security Council sanctions, but the presence of two US aircraft battle groups in the Persian Gulf is a constant reminder that the Bush administration is keeping “all options on the table”.

Why target traffic

By Chandra Mohan – Syndicate Features

Whether or not Rajasthan will erupt with serious caste clashes again cannot be said but it looks certain that inter-city traffic will certainly be among the first big casualties if there is a recurrence of any large-scale violent protest--for any ‘cause’. Not just in Rajasthan but everywhere else in India too the two most favourite targets of agitators are the highways and the railway tracks. As a result it brings inter-city and inter-state movement to a halt, which can last many days as was witnessed during the Gujjars’ agitation for ST tag.

Monstrous Mistakes

By Tisaranee Gunasekara

Is it a case of the gods driving insane, those they wish to destroy? Is there any other possible explanation for such inexplicable errors? The pro-Tiger Tamilnet accorded it much prominence – and little wonder. A Tiger propagandist could not have done a better job for the LTTE than Gotabhaya Rajapakse, Defence Secretary and Presidential sibling, did, with his recent BBC interview. In it Mr. Rajapakse justified the expulsion of North-East Tamils from Colombo, told the non-Asian world we can do without it and did his best to sound belligerent and unaccommodating, not only towards the Tigers but also towards Lankan Tamils and the international community.

Loony Leftists a source of amusement

By Janaka Perera

Two of the responses to the June 16 "Asian Tribune" report, `Heavy fighting continues in the North-East of Sri Lanka,' by Sarath Kumara alleges that he is either a hard-core LTTEer writing under a Sinhela a sounding pseudonym or a LTTE payroller. I think he is neither but a genuine Tiger sympathizer – an activist of the loony `Left.' One of those Marxist nuts still patiently waiting for the world revolution and the dawn of the classless society!

Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam has found a new center of power in enigmatic Kanimozhi

Opposition political forces in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu say with the advent of Kanimozhi , the favorite daughter of Dravid Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) patriarch Muthuvel Karunanidhi as a Rajya Sabha or Upper House member of the Indian Parliament the Sri Lankan terrorist group Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam ( LTTE)has found a friendly center of power in New Delhi. The 39 year old rising daughter of Karunanidhi , if ever gets a place in the union cabinet of Manmohan Singh , ironically, a well known sympathizer of the LTTE who has openly declared her desire for the separation of Sri Lanka , will be sitting at the center of power despite the fact that her alleged LTTE allies killed the ruling party’s former leader Rajiv Gandhi.
