Colombo, 08 May (Asiantribune.com):Tiger supremo, Velupillai Prabhakaran has turned down a request for a meeting with the visiting Japanese special peace envoy Yasushi Akashi, who is on a five day visit to push the government and the Tamil Tigers towards the next round of peace talks.
A request made by the Japanese Embassy on behalf of the visiting peace envoy has been rejected by the LTTE, who cited security concerns for the refusal.
Meantime, LTTE leadership advised Akashi to meet their political commissar S.P.Tamilselvan , as he will be made available for talks with the Japanese peace envoy. "Mr Akashi wanted to meet Mr Prabhakaran because he is the one who calls shots in the LTTE. He, like most of us, know very well that the rest of the LTTE leaders are simply following Prabhakan’s orders," said one Western diplomat who requested anonymity.
