Denmark to ban shortly TRO the fund raising arm of the LTTE

Colombo, 26 January, (Asiantribune.com): Denmark has indicated its decision to list as a banned entity, the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization, the fund raising arm of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

Also the Danish Government has assured to take appropriate actions on the continuation of the GSP Plus facilities to Sri Lanka.

This was disclosed by Lars Bredal, Acting Head and the Director-General of Denamark’s the Department of Asia and Latin America.

Sri Lanka’s Ambasaddaor Ranjit Jayasooriya, resident in Stockholm also accredited to Denmark met separately with Lars Bredal, Acting Head and the Director-General of the Department of Asia and Latin America and Ms. Ditte Bjerrejaart, Sri Lanka’s Desk Officer on Friday in Copenhagen, when he visited to participate in the annual meeting the Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen had with Ambassadors accredited to Denmark.

In the bilateral talks with Danish Foreign Ministry Officials, Sri Lankan Ambassador explained that as a result of the LTTE separatist terrorism, there is a huge threat for the economic development, democracy, the rule of law and deterioration of the human rights situation in Sri Lanka since 1976 and further said that the present Government with the support of the security forces succeeded almost in freeing the terrorist menace and is planning the whole communities - i.e. Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and others, to live with peace and harmony in Sri Lanka forever.

Responding to Sri Lanka Ambassador’s observation, Lars Bredal said that Denmark seriously considers the deterioration of human rights situation in Sri Lanka pointing out arrests, assaults and killings especially journalists and several other incidents.

Lars also said that it is very important to allow access by NGOs, INGOs and UN Agencies to the places of IDPs in the Northern Province, as there are lot of human rights sufferings.

Ambassador Jayasooriya replied that sufferings of the Tamil innocent civilians are due to the LTTE separatist terrorism and also stated that the Government of Sri Lanka has declared a 'safety zone' in the 300 square Kilometer uncleared area enabling trapped Tamil civilians to cross into the Government controlled territory and that the security forces were also instructed to continue with their operations with minimum (zero) casualties in the uncleared area. The Ambassador also mentioned that Denmark has a major role to play in future by continuing their development aid to the rehabilitation and reconstruction Mega-plan by the Government of Sri Lanka which helps the IDPs to resettle in the war-torn Northern Province area.

He further requested the support of the Government of Denmark to Sri Lanka for its request to the EU for the continuation of another 03 years GSP Plus facility to the EU market accession and also listing the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) in the EU countries as a terrorist support organization.

Moreover, Ambassador Jayasooriya highlighted that Sri Lanka does not request any financial assistance from the EU, but only the market access to the EU countries.

He pointed out that all funds collected by the TRO were used not for any rehabilitation work, but for building huge earth bunds ranging from 10 km to 25 km, canals and bunkers for military purposes by the LTTE and it is visible in the 95 per cent of the liberated Northern Province areas and also in the entire Eastern Province. Lars Bredal indicated that considering human rights violations and the Government responses to improve the present situation, they will take appropriate actions on the continuation of the GSP Plus facilities to Sri Lanka and also consider listing the TRO as a banned organization.

Ambassador Jayasooriya wshile thanking the decision of Denmark said that Sri Lanka wishes to strengthen the present relations with Denmark and it will further be strengthened by the proposed visit by the Sri Lanka delegation headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Sri Lankan Foreign Minister’s visit was scheduled to take place on 05th and 06th of March, 2009 and meetings with Parliamentarians, especially with Members of the Foreign Relations Committee on 05th March 2009 followed by bilateral discussions between Denmark and Sri Lanka on Friday, 05th March, 2009.

I cannot understand how all

I cannot understand how all these countries are so naïve in allowing these culprits to survive. TRO did use the goodwill of the Western Nations to promote their blood thirsty antics to topple a democratically elected government. The NGO and INGO all poured their resources to build bunkers and canals to fortify tiger FDL.

How come none of these organizations did not want to find out where their money goes? Perhaps they were also a part of this conspiracy. Sri Lankan government should seek to penalize the people in high office in these NGO for what they have done. No one could imagine that under the pretext of helping the disadvantage these NGO have helped the tigers to build war related enterprise.

Most of us have heard of the

Most of us have heard of the saying 'Closing the stable after the horse has bolted' However, Denmark has done a one-up on that. They have 'Closed the stable after the Horse Has Died'

Anyway, welldone Denmark. At least, you are the first among the Scandinavian Countries to open their sleepy eyes. Better late than never.

Denmark like other

Denmark like other scandinavian countries turned a blind eye to all attrocities committed by LTTE. With so much evidence being discovered of the activities of TRO in funding the LTTE to procure arms, these scandinavian governments let them carry on regardless at the insistence of Norway who promised the Europeans that LTTE will get their eelam. Now with LTTE being wiped out the Norwegians dreams too will fade away and very soon they will find that they will be the only people backing the LTTE. Hope the LTTE will ask for an eelam in Norway because so many tamil children died for a loss cause funded, backed and promoted by Norway. The tamil parents who lost their children should seek compensation from Norway for being used as pawns in Norway's bid to exploit the natural resources of this country.

Little too late but Never

Little too late but
Never say never.

Ban it for good.
Only benefits the tamils in and out of SL.
